When a student isn't progressing, the default response in most schools is to try something new. But the research points to a different question first: have we provided enough of what works, at the level this student actually needs?
This decision tree is a practical tool for school teams working within MTSS and RTI frameworks. It walks through the key intensity variables, including group size, instructional time, duration, and approach, before a program change is considered. Use it in team meetings, during case reviews, or as a prompt for planning conversations.
